Turgo Turbines

Versatile Power Generation for Medium to High Head Applications

Our Turgo impulse turbines are designed to excel in medium to high head applications, bridging the gap between Pelton and Francis machines. These versatile turbines are particularly well-suited for “run of river” schemes, offering the ability to handle some level of “dirty water” while maintaining excellent performance across a wide range of flow rates.

While Turgo turbines may have a slightly lower peak efficiency compared to Francis machines, they often outperform them in terms of overall energy generation. This is attributed to their unique combination of a flat efficiency curve and high partial load efficiency. These qualities make Turgo turbines highly advantageous in scenarios where significant water supply fluctuations are encountered.

To address potential pressure surges in upstream pipework, the use of deflectors can effectively mitigate any issues, even during full load rejections. This ensures a smoother and more stable operation of the turbines, enhancing their reliability and longevity.
